Op vrijdag 18 december vonden voor honderd deelnemers de preselecties van een grote spellingswedstrijd in Ethiopië plaats in Yeshi School second cycle. Onze eigen T. wist iedereen omver te blazen door moeiteloos alle woorden te spellen. “eleemosyonary”, “pot pouri”, “accelerational”,… geen woord was hem te moeilijk. Bovendien stond hij daar met een goede portie zelfzekerheid en was ook zijn uitspraak perfect. Als een van de zes winnaars mag hij binnenkort deelnemen aan de wedstrijd voor alle scholen in Awassa. En ondertussen is iedereen er al van overtuigd dat hij ook de grootste kanshebber is om door te stoten naar de finale in Addis Abeba. Deze prestigieuze spellingswedstrijd wordt tevens uitgezonden op de Ethiopische televisie.
